Leader: Murray Mitchell.
Purpose: To examine the building stones used in the construction of the Millennium Square, Leeds, and its surroundings.

27 - 29th June 2003 Residential Weekend, North Wales
|
Leader: Dr Malcolm Howells.
Purpose: To examine the Precambrian basement, the Cambrian development on the western edge of Snowdonia, evolution of the Ordovician marginal basin and the changing patterns of sedimentation and basin evolution in the Late Ordovician / Silurian.
Geology: Precambrian, Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian.

Thursday 10th July 2003 Allerton Park Quarry
|
Leader: Mr Bob Orange, Site Manager, Hanson Aggregates.
Purpose: At Allerton Park Quarry, adjacent to the A1(M) near Knaresborough, Hanson Aggregates extract and process moraine material for aggregate. A separate unit operates a substantial domestic refuse disposal operation on the site, filling in the void created. We will be given an insight into their activities and have a chance to examine some of the drift geology.
Geology: Quaternary.

Sunday 20th July 2003 Arnside - Silverdale Coast, Morecambe Bay
|
Leader: Iain Burgess.
Purpose: To examine the geology of a section of the the coast between Arnside and Silverdale, Morecambe Bay. In particular, to examine cyclicity in the foreshore section in Park Limestone, the base of the Park
Limestone, and to look for fossils in "Davidsonina Carbonaria Beds" exposed at Know End Point. To
examine the section through the full thickness of Urswick Limestone at Trowbarrow Quarry where strata are almost vertical.
Geology: Carboniferous.

Sunday 3rd August 2003 Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale
|
Leader: Dr Geoff Blacker (morning) and Murray Mitchell (afternoon).
Purpose: During the morning we will investigate the geology and industrial archaeology of Scott Gate Ash Quarries (above Pateley Bridge) with Geoff Blacker. During the afternoon Murray Mitchell will describe the wealth of building and decorative stones in St Mary's Church at Studley Royal on the Fountains Abbey / Studley Royal Estate.
Geology: Carboniferous.

Saturday 13th September 2003 River Doe Section, Twistleton Glen
|
Leader: Dr Jack Soper.
Purpose: To make a traverse of the best exposures of the Ingleton Group in Twistleton Glen, crossing the Skirwith Syncline (a major isoclinal fold), and to examine the relationship of the Acadian cleavage to this structure with a view to establishing its age.
Geology: ?Ordovician, ?Precambrian.

Saturday 4th October 2003 The Deep, Hull
|
Leader: Dr Stuart McLelland.
Purpose: Morning - an examination/demonstration of the Total Environment Simulator (TES) flume tank operated by Hull University at The Deep in Hull. Afternoon - optional visit to the public visitor centre at The Deep.
